September

Remember, remember, the first of September. Oh wait....thats November 5th. My mojo ain't flowing tonight. It could be due to my current writing location or I'm just being a lazy S.O.B. What else is new?

I just don't care right now!!!! I was doing so well with structured posts talking about one specific idea that dovetailed into other topics. I should get back to doing that. It probably has something to do with my current circumstances of moving soon. My life is in transition, and not in the sexy way.

Thinking about what drives me and what I'm passionate about, I fall on the environment and emerging technologies. These are always my fallback interests. I've been obsessed with new technology ever since getting the internet in the late 90's. My first vivid memories are of sitting in the kitchen of my families Marin County townhouse, firing up Earthlink dial-up, listening to that sweet sweet nostalgia and playing Starcraft custom maps or discovering Napster. This is where the heroin drip started and only amplified in my teenage years where I was spoiled enough to have my parents buy five computers for me and my friends to play together with. It's a clear chronicle of my progress towards destruction and addiction.

I remember when I had more time. I paused from writing for a bit while I scrolled through the interwebs wasting time. As I slowly settled back down from a burst of procrastination and settle on just listening to music, nothing else. Sometimes that's all you need. No thoughts, present in its own form of meditation. My formative years were spent discovering and consuming a cornucopia of influential music I had the privilege of experiencing and I am now envious of those experiences. Rarely do I give myself the time to just discover and enjoy music now with so many other distractions. I guess you could make the excuse that the pressure of becoming a "functioning member of society" puts strain on the endeavours of the childish self. Gone are the days of pure freedom and lack of responsibility that foster the ability to spend time whimsically but ultimately subjectively more effectively. This idea is bounded about in culture. As traditional jobs leave the hands of humans and pass to machines, we are awarded the comfort of "free time" which can foster more creativity and unlock more human potential. Projects like Google's "20% time" are often cited in these arguments about human potential and productivity. For now, we all have to pay the bills to pay for the things we want and need but maybe some day the rules will change. Or maybe we just have to make our own rules.
